PhD positions are awarded after a public selection. Candidates are expected to hold a 2nd cycle degree, which does not necessarily has to be completed at the time of the application: Master’s Degree must be obtained no later than October 1st.
B2 English Certificate must be obtained no later than the end of the first year. CEFR Level B2 Proficiency must be certified though one of the certificates indicated on the Official Legal Notice (see also candidates that are not required to provide this certification).

Full documentation should be submitted as requested by the Application procedure and two referee letters should reach the PhD secretariat by e-mail within the same deadline. The shortlisting procedure will be completed with results and schedule of the interviews published in http://phd.fisica.unimi.it/admission/selection/. In the same page will be published where the interviews will take place.
In order to apply:
1. registering online on the University portal (https://registrazione.unimi.it/reg_utenti_esterni/registrazione/form.html). This operation is not required by those already registered on the portal or in possession of University access credentials (final year students or those who graduated from the University of Milan less than a year ago);
2. submitting an admission application through the following link https://studente.unimi.it/ammissioni/a/dottorato/checkLogin.asp;
3. paying a non-refundable fee of €50 (for selection costs) by credit card or using the MAV (only in Italy) form generated by the online service.
Applicants must upload the following files in .pdf, .rtf or .jpg format, all under 10 MB:
A. Diploma Supplement or certificate of achievement of the master’s and three-year degree (or equivalent qualifications obtained in Italy and abroad), with the exams taken and related marks and credits. Undergraduates must send a certificate of enrollment in place of the certificate of achievement. The documentation is valid if written in Italian, English, French, German or Spanish;
B. Curriculum Vitae, describing any professional experience and other qualifications held by the applicant;
C. Research Project (using Form 1);
D. Copy of Passport (foreign applicants only);
E. Any publications;
F. Annex A.
G. The eventual request for an interview in remote (using Form 3)
Non-EU candidates residing abroad are also required to submit an application for pre-enrollment on the Universitaly website, in order to obtain a study VISA.
The online application cannot be modified or supplemented with further documentation once it has been confirmed.
Italian citizens may self-certify in cases and manners provided for by the laws in force.
Failure to submit all of the above-mentioned documents A-C implies exclusion from the competition.
Qualifications and scientific publications may be submitted in Italian or English.
In addition to the above documentation, on request by the Teaching committee and as specified in the programme tables, applicants must provide maximum two reference letters (drafted according to Form 2) by the competition deadline, from persons who have had a role in their education. The reference letters in .pdf must be e-mailed directly by said persons to phd@fisica.unimi.it. In any case candidates may include reference letters written as indicated above with their application. Reference letters are considered part of the candidate’s curriculum and no point score is assigned to them.
